Overview
Český Krumlov is a small town in South Bohemia whose medieval and Renaissance centre, wrapped in a loop of the Vltava River, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Its castle is one of the largest in Czechia, with a baroque theatre, gardens and a painted tower. The town is popular as a day trip from Prague, but staying overnight lets you see it after the crowds leave.
Best time to visit
May to September has the warmest weather; the town is busiest in summer. Some castle tours run only in the main season.
