Overview

Cairo is No. 97 in Euromonitor International's Top 100 City Destinations Index 2025. Egypt's capital, the largest city in Africa and the Arab world, lies on the Nile just south of the delta.

Its sights span five thousand years, from the pyramids at Giza to the mosques and madrasas of Historic Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the new Grand Egyptian Museum.

Best time to go

October to April is the most comfortable time, with warm days.

Summers are very hot, often above 35 °C; visit the pyramids early in the morning.

Getting around

The metro is cheap and avoids traffic; ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Careem are the easiest way to get around.
