Overview
The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art is No. 84 in The Art Newspaper's survey of the world's most visited art museums, with 902,024 visitors in 2025. Designed by the Porto architect Álvaro Siza, it opened in 1999 in the grounds of the Serralves Foundation, in the west of the city.
The foundation combines the museum with an Art Deco villa, the Casa de Serralves, and an 18-hectare park of gardens, woods and farmland. Exhibitions focus on art from the 1960s to today.
Best time to visit
Weekday mornings are the quietest. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for the park; check the official website for hours.
